How to Advertise on Google AdSense

by Warren Davies

Google AdSense is a program that website owners can use to make money from their websites. The ads the program displays on a website are relevant to the site's content and appeal to certain characteristics of its visitors, making it a useful solution for bringing target traffic to your website. To make your business appear on the AdSense network, first sign up to the advertisers' program, Google AdWords.

Step 1
Open a browser and navigate to the Google AdWords site (link in Resources). Sign in with your Google account or click “Create account” if you do not have one.
Step 2
Click “Billing” from the top menu bar, then click “Billing preferences.” Type in your payment details and VAT information, then click “Billing” again, this time followed by “Make payments.” Type in an amount you want to add to your advertising account, then click “Continue” and approve the payment on the next screen.
Step 3
Click “Campaigns | All online Campaigns | New campaign." Fill in the details of your advertising campaign, including a name, the locations, networks and devices on which you want the ads to be shown, and a budget for your campaign. The amount you pay when a user clicks on of your ads is based on an auction system among advertisers, so choose a starting bid and a daily budget. Start with a low bid of less than a dollar -- you can increase it as necessary later. Click “Save and continue” when done.
Step 4
Create an ad. Type in a name for this ad group -- for example, if you sell video games, you might create a different ad group for each popular platform. Type in a headline, description and destination URL for the ad in the relevant text boxes, then type in keywords for this ad group. These relate to the searches your potential customers make in Google. Generally, the more relevant the keyword, the more effective and expensive it will be. For example, the name of a video game will generally convert better than the name of a character in it, though the latter may probably be cheaper.
Step 5
Type in the maximum you want to bid on these keywords in the “Ad group bids” section. Click “Save ad group” when done. Your ad will go live once approved by Google. You can now create new campaigns and ad groups as required.

Make a date with data in Google Analytics

Here in AdSense, we’re big on data. From spreadsheets and graphs to weekly reports and metrics, we constantly turn to numbers when running our business. In a similar vein, we've heard your requests for more data to help you run your AdSense websites, which is why we’re excited to announce the integration of one of our personal favorite reporting tools, Google Analytics, with AdSense. We're gradually rolling out this functionality to publishers, and you'll see an invitation link at the top of your 'Overview' and 'Advanced Reports' pages when it's been enabled for your account.

By integrating your AdSense account with a new or existing Analytics account, you’ll have access to in-depth reports about user activity on your site. In addition to the wealth of metrics already available in Analytics such as unique visitors and visitor language, you'll now have access to granular reports that break down AdSense performance both by page and by referring site. Armed with this new data about user behavior, you’ll be able to make more informed decisions on how to improve the user experience on your site and optimize your AdSense units to increase your revenue potential.

We've highlighted a few ways to use the integrated metrics below, but we encourage you to be creative! Come up with your own to discover how useful (and fun) new data can be:
  • Discover untapped markets. Use the geographies report to determine which regions are under-represented in your site’s user base. Optimize your site’s content to attract more of these under-represented users.
  • Drive high-earning traffic to your site. Use the 'Referring sites' report to determine where the users who are making you the most money are coming from. Focus your efforts on getting traffic from these sources.
  • Delve deeper into AdSense reports. Use the visualization feature to look at trends in your site's AdSense performance over time, or by time of day.
Again, this feature is not yet available to all our publishers, but please keep checking your account for an invitation.

Things You Must Know About Google AdSense

Have you ever thought of how bloggers and site owners earn their incentives?

Yes, obviously, they write content for their website so they can attract a lot of users to view it.

But, how can they earn money just by running a blog or site? The answer is the displayed ads on their site.

If this sounds interesting to you, you have to know what is Google AdSense.

Google AdSense allows bloggers and website owners to earn money by displaying Google ads on their websites.

These advertisements, when clicked, will let the advertisers know and they'll pay you through Google AdSense.

Basically, you need to sign up for an AdSense account and add the code to your blog or website.

You can choose how your ads would look like, where will show up and what kind of ads you will put up on your blog or site.

There are two ways to make money using AdSense:

Clicks - your earnings will be based on how many people clicked on the ads.
Impressions - you'll earn based on the number of page views of posts with ads.
Who are qualified to use AdSense?
If you're using self-hosted WordPress, you can visit the AdSense website and sign up for an account. After you signed up, you'll receive a code that you can place anywhere in your site.
If you're using Blogger, sign up for an AdSense account and use the Monetize tab on Blogger to set up and link your account there.
The process of how you'll earn at AdSense is easy, just create an account and set it up on your site and voila!

You can now earn using the program but you should know that it takes a long time and tons of traffic before you can receive a big income.

Google AdSense can potentially give you a stable income or much more than that.

There are people who earn hundreds of thousands per year in AdSense revenue alone. Although, this takes time, large audience, quality content, and SEO before you can actually earn that big.

How can you get the most out of AdSense?

Build your links to increase traffic on your website. You'll have a greater chance of accumulating cash if your site has a steady number of visitors.
Write quality content for your site and make sure that it's SEO-ready so search engines will send a lot of "targeted" users who needs your content.
Choose you ads carefully; it should be attractive and eye-catching so there's a high tendency that your visitors will click it.
AdSense can be a good source of income but you should never rely on AdSense alone. You should, at least, try using other monetizing strategies as a back up plan.

Also, read their terms and condition before trying it so you'll know what's okay and what's not.

Remember that you should never click your own ads because that's cheating.

Google can tell if you're clicking it yourself and don't encourage friends or family to do it. Google has a system that can detect this kind of cheating.

Google AdSense can help you reach your goals. All you need to do is to follow all the rules and you will definitely be successful.
