How To Create Blog For Google AdSense – Quality vs Quantity

Nowadays everyone wants to earn online. Google AdSense is the favorite among many as the primary source of online income. Newbies who are a little bit serious in blogging wants to monetize their blog with Google AdSense program. They put their a$$es off and work day and night for the first 3-4 months to make their blog go online. They write numerous posts, do basic SEO and bookmark the content hoping to get accepted by Google.  Many do get accepted by Google but the percentage of those getting neglected by Google is more.
Another scenario is the case of a blogger who is too serious about blogging. But apart from being serious, he/she is passionate too. So this Mr. X blogger blogs too but he maintains the desired quality also. Mr. X maintains the frequency of posting. X has slow frequency of posting but is able to derive gradual attention of the visitors. As a result many bloggers like X get accepted by Google but many get neglected too.
SO WHO WINS THE RAT RACE ??
You might be thinking that I am confused too. But believe me I have seen many a times quantity succeeding over quality and many a times quality succeeding over quantity. You know I have various examples to prove my statements. But then this post is going to be extremely controversial. So let me come straight. Just like an alloy is a mixture of metals and non-metals, Google AdSense is a mixture of quality and quantity. So after Google’s recent algorithms, this has been proved. If you want to blog for AdSense, you should maintain your blog’s quality and publish only quality blog posts on your blog. Also, your frequency of publishing blog posts on your blog should be good.
Well my example is a little lame (laugh out loud) but since if I have to choose one then I would definitely go over quality articles over quantity articles.

Quality content is one of the major aspects that help you to make your blog a brand. Well imagine a scenario where you have successfully written quality content and marketed it too. So I bet then people would love to write for you. You just need to add “Write for us” option at the top of your blog where in you mention all the guidelines to be fulfilled before a fellow blogger gives his/her article to be published on your blog.

How To Increase Your Blog's Earning Potential with Google AdSense

By Susan Gunelius

  1. Determine your blog's primary focus.
Google AdSense ads are most effective when they are served to people who are interested in the products and services those ads offer. With that in mind, Google AdSense tends to work best on blogs that are about niche topics such as a specific product or hobby. Consider how you can make your blog's topic more focused to better attract specific types of readers and specific types of ads.
  2. Write consistent and focused content.
Google serves ads based on the content on each of your pages. The more focused your content is on each page, the better Google can determine which ads are the most relevant to your readers. Write consistently and stay focused on a specific topic to increase the likelihood that Google will display ads on your blog that your readers are apt to click on.
  3. Work to increase your blog's traffic.
The more visitors to your blog, the more potential for clicks on your Google AdSense ads. Work to increase your blog's traffic to boost your chances for ad click-throughs. However, keep in mind that if you write focused content, the ads on your blog will be relevant to that content. The traffic that comes to your blog needs to be interested in your blog's topic and your content, or they are not likely to be interested in your corresponding Google AdSense ads. Work to drive traffic but make a concerted effort to find traffic that adds value to your blog.
  4. Research and test keywords.
Google serves ads through its AdSense program based on keywords. Advertisers bid on keywords relevant to their businesses. Some keywords are more popular than others and therefore, drive higher bids. Higher paying keywords also mean higher payouts to you when your readers click on them. The ads served on your site are determined by the content on your site. If you're writing about topics related to higher paying keywords, then you're likely to earn more money from your Google AdSense program than if you wrote about topics related to lower paying keywords.
  5. Test Google AdSense ad positions on your blog.
You can display Google AdSense ads just about anywhere on your blog. Test a variety of positions on your blog to determine which work best for you in terms of generating click-throughs and maximum revenue.

3 Ways To Increase Adsense CPC

by Will Green

Sometimes, the CPC is a mystery in the eyes of a publisher of Adsense. One day, the average CPC might be dollars while on other days, it is pathetic cents. Of course, publishers of PPC will want the highest CPC possible so they make the most amount of money possible. The question is how dopublishers do this? What makes a publisher’s account’s CPC high and low?

The cost per click of adverts is deemed by:
  • The competition – How many PPC advertisers are there bidding for that ad space?
  • Ad location.
  • The website itself - If the website has valuable high quality content on it, then advertisers will be more likely to spend more on getting that ad space because there will be more chance of a conversion.
From identifying the above factors, we can look at ways to increase the CPC.

Increase Competition For Ad Units

This is basically supply and demand. You will want to make sure your supply is as little as possible and demand is as great as possible. You can do this through:
  • Decreasing the number of adverts on your site from the maximum of three.
  • Making sure you have enabled both text and image adverts to appear.
  • Allowed as many ad categories as possible.
There is an argument that if you remove the ad categories that are not getting clicked on will increase your overall CTR. But, in doing this, you will be decreasing the level of competition on your ad units. Therefore, although your CTR may have increased, your CPC will decrease which has the potential of meaning that blocking ad categories that are not making you money can result you not making as much money as before.

Keep Adverts Above The Fold

Adverts above the fold (appearing as soon as the webpage has loaded) are the preferred option for advertisers because they will be some of the first <scripts>s that are loaded (resulting in appearing for the longest amount of time and having the best chance of getting clicked on). Therefore, if you have any adverts below the fold of your advert, you are putting them at a CPC disadvantage straight away. Whenever using adverts, always give the adverts prime location because after all  publishers can only make money when they are clicked – you will want to give your adverts the best possible chance of getting clicked.

Create Quality Targeted Content

Pay per click advertising is famous for bringing targeted traffic to a landing page. You are more likely to have a high CPC if your content is quality and specific to the topic you are talking about. For example, if you have an article talking about a range of electronic equipment, it is hard for advertisers to pinpoint exactly what type of traffic is reading the article. Therefore, they will not want to bid on it because it is too vague. On the other hand, if the article was about just Apple’s iPad, the article is much more focused. Therefore, advertisers will want to bid for it because they know the traffic has a direct interest to the Apple iPad.

5 Tips On Using Google AdSense To Make You Money

by Andrew Wang

Google AdSense can be an absolute goldmine for anyone who is willing to invest some time in learning how to use it effectively. A lot of people who start using Google AdSense tend to get turned off by it within the first couple of months because they just don’t seem to be making the money that they had expected.
Arm yourself against making the typical newbie mistakes and read our tips below so that you’ll know just how you can make some good cash off of AdSense.

1. Where Does AdSense Make Sense?

Perhaps the biggest mistake that those who use AdSense make is that they throw ads on every type of website imaginable. Don’t waste your time, effort and ads on sites that won’t be bringing in the cash.
Let’s take a tech info website for example. If you run a site that provides high level tech advice, then there’s a very low chance that anyone visiting your site will bother with your AdSense ads. Why? Because these people just don’t generally click on those types of ads. They know about AdSense, and they didn’t come to your website for anything but the information written on your site. They want answers to a problem, and then they want to get out.
Let’s say you have a website that’s more geared towards sales, however. This would be a better type of site to have ads on as people will be far more likely to click on the advertisements you put up.
It may take a bit of trial and error since some niches tend to do better than others when it comes to these types of ads, but generally speaking, if your blog or website is about selling things, then AdSense will work better for you.

2. “SmartPricing:” Anything But Smart

Whenever possible, you have to avoid Google’s “SmartPricing” scheme. With SmartPricing, Google gives advertisers a discount based on how popular or “valuable” your website is. They tend to base this on your site’s click through ratio.
So if your website has a high click through ratio, then the perceived value of your site is high so then the cost per ad click is higher. If your click through ratio is low, however, the value of your site is “low” so you get less money per click. The difference between a SmartPriced site and a non-SmartPriced site can be anywhere from a couple cents to several dollars in difference.
One way to avoid this is to post your AdSense ads only on your older posts. Why? Because anyone who regularly visits your site isn’t going to click on your ads. If you post them on your older posts however, you’ll be able to possibly keep your click through ratio pretty high. There are a lot of resources out there about how you can change the coding of your website or blog to keep your ads only on your older posts.
Another way to avoid the dreaded SmartPricing is to display your ads to those who have landed on your page through a search engine only. You can again tailor your blog using the “function” file to change where the ads are displayed.

3. Choose The Best Keywords

Google is all about keywords, so in order to make the biggest profit you need to choose the best CPC keywords out there. You can use a number of great tools out there to help identify what the high paying keywords for your niche are, and there are several lists supplied for free, such as www.rumler.com.
Keywords also determine what kind of ads are going to show up on your website or blog. Nothing’s worse than visiting a website that’s cluttered with ads that don’t even make sense. Target your keywords so that you’ll be able to “influence” what types of ads will show up on your blog or site. Make sure that these keywords are on your website or blog entry, but BE CAREFUL. If the keyword density is too high, you WILL be penalized by Google and can even be tossed out of their AdSense program.
TIP: Read Google’s terms of service. Once you’re out of the program, you’re pretty much out for good. Follow the terms of service, stay in their good graces, and write great content so you’ll continue to get visitors who’ll click on your ads.

4. Choose Big Ads

AdSense advertisements come in a variety of formats, so you can tailor the formats to see which works best with your blog. Having an advertisement that looks good on your blog or site is important, but keep this in mind: the large 336×280 rectangle sized advertisements has long proven to give the best payout. Maybe this is because the ad is right in any visitors face, or maybe it’s because that size can display video ads (which are increasing in popularity). Either way, it may be a good idea to start out with an ad around that size.

5. Monitor Your Success

No matter what you do with your blog or website, you need to keep track of how successful your ads are doing. If you don’t monitor your ads, then you will ultimately fail. You’ll be able to pin point which ads work, which don’t, and over time you may discover that certain ads work best at certain times throughout the year while others work best at other times.
One of the best things that we can suggest is that you look at your top 1/5 of pages, and then you take a look at your bottom 1/5 of pages. Why are the top 1/5 of pages making more money? What are you doing right? Try to take what seems to be working with the top 1/5 of your pages and then incorporate those ideas and methods into the bottom 1/5.

You’ll also be able to quickly see whether or not your chosen keywords are making money. If your keywords aren’t working, change them up! You should always do a top keyword run at least once a week to make sure that your site is up to date and current.

Best Designs to Maximize Your Google AdSense Earnings

People often ask me about the best theme or design for AdSense.
That really depends on your goal. If you want to add AdSense to your header then you should find a design that makes it easy to add the code to your header.
Some have found that large units in the header tend to convert the best for AdSense.
The reason is the placement is good so they get the most exposure and larger units tend to have more advertisers bidding on them so there is more competition for ads.
More competition drives the price of the ad up and it earns you more per click.

WordPress Themes With Header Widgets

So if you want to add AdSense to your header, it's best to find WordPress themes that have a header widget.
That way you don't have to use a plugin or tweak the PHP code to add your ads.
header widgetYou can just go to Appearance >> Widgets in your WordPress dashboard and drag a Text widgets into the Header Widget area as shown below.
For example, the Magazine Pro theme by StudioPress has a header widget and it can fit the large 728x90 leaderboard ad.
magazine proNot all WordPress themes make it this easy. In fact, I've heard stories of people breaking their themes trying to add AdSense to the header area because they couldn't figure out how to edit the code.
Yikes!
The good news about this theme is that it's mobile responsive so when someone views it on a phone, the banner drops down below the logo.
You can use the AdSense responsive units so the ad will automatically re-size to fit the screen.
See below...
Magazine Pro ResponsiveNotice how the banner is now showing below the title and the menu is on two lines so it's easier to read on the smaller device.
A lot of the StudioPress themes have header widgets and it's my favorite family of themes right now because they are clean, professional and have great support.
So if you've decided you want to add AdSense to your header to maximize your earnings, make sure you shop for themes that have header widgets.

Wide Sidebars are Best

After having a discussion with my own AdSense Optimization specialist, I learned that the larger square units (300x250 and 336x280) perform the best.
Not as many advertisers use the 250x250 unit anymore so there is less inventory for these sizes.
Again, larger units attract more advertisers so the bid price of the ad increases.
So when choosing a theme, try to find one that will accomodate those sizes if you can.

A Word of Caution

Even though it's great to make money with AdSense, you also have to consider your site's ultimate goal and that is hopefully toprovide a good user experience for your visitor so they will return.
Just because you can add up to 3 units on a page doesn't mean you should. In fact, Google's search algorithm has been known to penalize sites with too many ads above the fold -- especially if the site has minimal content.
I tend to use only one or two units per page and rarely use three. I also spread them out on the page.
I think it looks a lot more professional and doesn't take away from my content.
Find a balance between ads and content. You don't want to overwhelm or turn your visitor off with too many ads. In fact, you should always have more content than you do advertising.
Always check the AdSense Best Practices page to ensure you are using AdSense responsibly.
You'll notice that their first tip is about considering the user experience. They want to make it clear that your visitor should come first and ads second.
People visit websites because they want information about what they were searching for. They don't want to be bombarded with ads. Your AdSense ads should compliment your pages and not dominate them.

Buying AdSense Ready Themes

There are some AdSense themes on the market you can buy that are specifically to help you place AdSense ads and optimize your earnings.
I personally have not used any of them so there are none that I can recommend.
Many of the "AdSense Ready" themes can cause you to be too focused on placing too many ads on your pages, and as I said,Google has been known to penalize sites (lower their rank) if there are too many ads and very little content.
In my opinion, it's best to find a theme that has a header widget (if you want to place an ad in the header) and/or has wider sidebar columns should you want to take advantage of the larger square units.
Spread your units out and don't feel that you have to use three units on every page. You may earn more that way, but you could harm your rankings and your visitor's experience.

How Much Adsense Is Too Much Adsense?

When we asked users on Twitter, Facebook and Google+ if they had any web design or SEO questions, we were asked the following excellent question by @HolidayScotland:
“How strict are Google now with ads on websites? And can too many get you penalised?”
In short How Much Adsense is too much?
There are a few different answers to this:
  • The mathematical answer
  • The ‘above the fold’ answer
  • The ‘bigger picture’ answer

The Mathematical Answer

If you were to read through the Adsense Guidelines you will know that mathematically speaking you are allowed a maximum of:
  • Three Adsense for Content blocks
  • Three link units and
  • Two search boxes per web page.
This is quite a large allowance – so in theory you could have up to 8 Adsense units if you followed this as your answer.
However, even the guidance makes it clear that
However, keep in mind that placing the maximum number of allowed ad units on a page may result in it looking cluttered.
We will come back to this shortly.

Above ‘The Fold’

There has always been debate as to what ‘above the fold‘ actually means. Roughly speaking, in computer terms it means whatever can be seen on a website without scrolling. In the era of mobile devices, responsive web design and a myriad of screen resolutions this definition has become increasingly blurred.
However, if you think of it in terms of the initial impact your website or individual web page has on a user when they load your site as ‘above the fold’ you will be thinking in the correct way.
How this applies to Adsense is that since late 2011 it has been clear that Google have been open to penalising sites with too much Adsense ‘above the fold’. So if a user lands on your page and they are bombarded with ads and struggle to find the real content, then that’s a bad signal. Firstly it’s bad in terms of organic ranking because the user’s experience of your site is poor, so your site may not rank very well because of that. Secondly your site could contravene Google’s Adwords (and therefore Adsense) policies, risking the closure of your Adsense account.
So while you could have 8 ad units on your page, if all 8 were above the fold, the visitor to your website could easily land and be put off your site due to the volume of ads they initially encounter.
Principle: place your ads carefully down your page, be considerate of your users.

Sites for Adsense

If you read the Google Policy above you will have noted that one of the main ways your Adsense account and website could contravene the rules is
“Websites designed for the sole or primary purpose of showing ads”
Therefore if you set up a website, however good the content, because you thought that’d be a great way to make money, then you risk being in contravention of this principle. This is called creating a “site for Adsense”.
You could still fall foul of this unintentionally by loading your site up with too many ads. If you’re creating 200-300 words of quality content per page and have 8 ad-units, that can appear to bea site for Adsense.
So the first principle is don’t create a site for ads, create a site for users and then ensure your ads are controlled. Don’t have too many and don’t overwhelm the user. Focus on great content – text, video, images, infographics – whatever is applicable, then you can insert adverts carefully and sensitively so that your ad income is a nice add-on but is not your driver.

Are Google Strict?

On this thread from a couple of years back the complainant had received this e-mail from Google.
“While going through our records recently, we found that your AdSense account has posed a significant risk to our AdWords advertisers. Since keeping your account in our publisher network may financially damage our advertisers in the future, we’ve decided to disable your account.
Are Google strict? It appears they have to be.
And why is that? Because as a website owner when people click on your Adsense links, a person or company somewhere is paying for that click. Adsense is firstly other people’s money before a website owner’s. And because that money is being paid for a click, Google need to make sure that advertiser’s money is well-spent.

Adsense – The Bigger Picture

Finally it’s important to look at the bigger picture, rather than just purely at ad placement and click-through rates etc. While Adsense can be a legitimate form of income – you can get banned if not using it correctly.
The answer – build your website first for your target users, not for people who might click through. So here’s some basic guidance:
  • Ensure your website design is good – and presents you well.
  • Produce great content for your users first – and build a following who know you do! Ask yourself if a visitor to the site sees content or ads – and redress the balance accordingly.
  • Position your ads considerately, being sure that the first experience of your site is positive – and keep some further down the page too.
  • Make it clear to visitors which are your ads and what is your content – do not accidentally (or intentionally) cause people to click when that was not their intention.
  • Google are strict (it seems) because they are protecting the advertising spend of companies that use the Adwords network.
  • Too many can get you penalised and cause negative SEO affects as well, if the web page is overloaded with ads.

I will recommend you to start a new blog on above mentioned keywords niche, it will definitely give you massive opportunity to make money from adsense program.

2. Site performance :-

Site performance is one of the major factor to increase the adsense revenue. I had faced this problem a lot because my blog was at bad crawling server. Though Google crawls my site but no efficiently. Many times it gets crawler errors which I came to know before a few days ago when adsense score-card is shown in my account. It shows me crawling issues there and when I learn there about it, it simply tells me that
“crawler is getting problems to crawl your site and it will affect your CPC and won’t give too much revenue.”

As I read this, I immediately changed my blog’s hosting and take it to the best server. After taking good server, to enhance Adsense earnings and site’s load time I’ll move to CDN (Content Delivery network) in future. You should take your site to CDN after getting a good server.

3. Ads type, Size and color :-

The different kind of Ad types are available for you to display on your site. Text ads, image ads and video ads you can display show to your domain. It is recommended that you should use both image and text ads on your site as you can see in the snapshot also. Ads color also play an important role to enhance the Adsense revenue. If your site background is white, then you should use white color background ad unit from “My Ads” section in Google account. You can choose color there as per your choice.

4. Ads position and placing :-

As you generate ad unit from my ads, now the main task is to display your ad at the proper place on your site. Placing and positioning of ads can effect a lot to your Adsense earnings. Placing your ads at the right place will give you more clicks and generate passive income for you.
One of the best way to get more clicks I’ll recommend you to place your ads bellow the post’s title and in the middle of your content. Try to display ads on the top of your webpages and site because maximum time visitors don’t go to the bottom of a web page. You can show ads at the end of your post content also, it will work for me many times and surely it will work for you too.

5. Block certain ads :-

Many times you have noticed that you are viewing a webpage related to mobile specifications and certainly an ad of home design is displaying which is totally irrelevant to your content. You will not click on that home design ad. If there was an advertisement that an iphone 5 is free available here, you might click on it to find how you can get that iphone free.
Hence in this case, administrator should block home decor category to display ads on the site. It will surely increase your CTR (Click Through Rate). Keep in mind that your Adsense CTR shouldn’t be too much high, Google may remove ads if CTR is high.

6. Forget internal linking :-

A blogger’s biggest desire is that every visitor that lands on his site, should visit at least 3-4 pages before leaving the site. Hence he/she offers his/her other article’s link within the content and try to put more and more internal links in the post. Just offer relevant post’s link with the current article, it will definitely help you a lot when you display relevant ads also on the site according to your niche.
It increases the chances to click on an ad more because you have already blocked the irrelevant ads on your site.

7. Domain’s Page Rank (PR) increases Adsense earnings :-

The page rank of a website is decided by Google itself. There certain algorithms and tools by which Google judges that what page rank should be given to a domain. Page rank is a number from 0 to 10. If your site PR is 0 then your adsense revenue will definitely be low. As you work on page rank and get at least one PR of your site, your Adsense earnings will be increased definitely.
For example we have 2 domains :- abc.com (PR-0) and xyz.com (Pr-4)
Both these domains are displaying Google ads, now we’ll see how amazingly earnings differ. Suppose CPC is 0.10 for domain abc.com.
Now if a click comes on xyz.com, the CPC will be same 0.10 but the earning from one click is 0.10 x 4 = 0.40 :-)
Just imagine your site’s PR is 6 or 7. You will be at the seventh sky. ;-)
So Page rank enhances the revenue in your adsense account.

8. Google Analytics improves adsense earnings :-

It will enhance your adsense revenue from ads.

9. Google search box :-

You should have at least one Google search box on your domain, it will also improve the earnings from Google ads. You can display 2 search boxes on a web page. Whenever a user searches any query in this box,it will show relevant results and ads. It will boost your money earning.
