Some Important Adsense FAQs

By Regan Jones
Here below some frequently asked questions related to Adsense.

What is the minimum page views required for my site to get accepted?

I think there is no minimum limit. But a website with more than thousand page views per month is enough to get accepted by Adsense.

I am an Indian blogger. What should I do for my blog getting approved by Adsense?

For countries like India, the blog or website you want to display Adsense ads should be at least six months old and should have been updating regularly. So, wait for six months after creating your blog and then apply for Adsense program using your blog. In the six month period to try to optimize your site for Adsense. This article will help you.

I can’t login to my account

Try the login troubleshooter and follow the steps. If you can’t find solution submit the issue to Adsense.

I have tried to apply to Adsense using my email1. I received a mail from Adsense and it said I have an approved Adsense account associated with my email2. I was surprised and tried to login to Adsense using email2. But I could not. There I get a message that the account is not a valid Adsense account. What is the reason for that?

I think you don’t have an approved Adsense account under the email2. You may have submitted an application to Adsense using your email2 and have not verified your email using the verification mail you received. So, check for theverificationmail in the email2. If it's not found go to this link and give your mail to resend the verification email.

How many ad units can I display on a page?

A page can have up to three Adsense content ad units, two Adsense for search boxes, twoproduct referral units and three link units.

What are the places where I should not place ads?

  • You should not place ads near the navigation links.
  • You should not place ads under a title which will mislead users to click the ads. For example, placing ads below the title “check out our sponsors” is illegal.
  • You should not place ads on a page which contains only hyperlinks.
  • Don’t place ads on a page whose content is changing dynamically (for example, chat, instant messaging etc.).
  • Don’t place ads on error pages like 404, thank you page etc.
  • You should not align ads with images.
  • Should not place ads in email messages.
  • Don’t use ads in software applications.
  • Don’t place ads on iframe only pages.
  • Don’t place ads on popup windows.
  • Don’t place ads on a page which shows pop-up ads.
If you want to know more about legal and illegal ad placement read this Adsense guide.

My Blogger dashboard shows that my website received 500 page views today. But in the Adsense dashboard it shows only 200 ad views that my website got. What is the reason for that?

That is because, your Blogger stats is inclusive of all the traffic come from robots and spam websites and other spam activities. But Adsense won’t count this traffic. Also, if a user disabled JavaScript in his browser, the Adsense ads will not be displayed. So the pageview will not be counted in ad views.

What should I do to get approved Adsense account?

You should optimize your site and take great care about it. The following articles will guide you to get an approved Adsense account. Read the tips and follow the things should be done, given in the articles.

Can I use Adsense ads along with other ads?

Yes. The other ads should not have the look and feel of Adsense theme. That means they should not have the same styles (colour, background etc.) as like Adsense ads. Also, there should be a difference between your ads and Adsense ads. So, do not place both the ads like joined together. Place ads in such a way that users should understand that both the ads are different.

What should I avoid after getting approved Adsense account and placing ads on my site?

  • You should completely avoid clicking on your own ads or asking friends to click.
  • You should not get traffic from paid to click and paid to surf services. If you do, your account might be dismissed.
  • Never try to create another Adsense account. If you do, your current account will be banned. Use only one Adsense account for all your business.
  • Never use materials that are copyrighted by others.
  • Never alter the Adsense ad code.
  • Never place more ad unit than the permitted.
  • Use ads in your website only. Never send ads by email.
  • Don’t display ads on offensive and pornographic sites.
  • Never place ads on a website whose language is not supported by Adsense.
  • Never publish your Adsense earning information publicly.

Best Adsense Placement Tips

If you’re looking for the best adsense placement tips you need to take into account the the Google Panda algorithm change.
While it’s not spelled out obviously that ad-to-content ratio can be a problem, keep in mind that the Google Panda / Farmer update was designed to combat content farms – which in most cases make money with Adsense.
If you look more closely, you can find this question among many others that are behind the Panda algorithm:
Does this article have an excessive amount of ads that distract from or interfere with the main content?
Vanessa Fox also mentions ad-to-content ratio as one of likely factors behind the Farmer update.
But what’s really interesting is that Google Adsense has changed their best adsense placement tips – but unfortunately I think it’s not that well publicized.
The suggested adsense placement / layout is now like this:
Best adsense placement tips

So as you can see the text should be wrapped around the ads or a portion of the text should be placed before the first ad.
If you follow the above link you’ll also see how the ads should not be placed – which is an ad just below the headline that pushes the content down.
Another way that many websites now place their ads is in the right column but still above the fold and / or a banner ad high on the page that doesn’t push the content down that much and is not mistaken for content since it’s not below the headline.
Here are some examples from techcrunch.com, engadget.com and nytimes.com:
optional ad placement

other ad placement

ad placement

All these websites make money with advertising but it’s obvious that they all follow the same principles – which are different than those of Adsense publishers with very aggressive ad placements.
Would these major websites have a better CTR if they placed the ads inside their content? Very likely.
Why don’t they do it? It’s obviously is not the right way to play this game.
There’s no need to know all the answers all the time, you can simply follow those who do well and apply their principles.

Why Google's +Post ads Program May Be Important For You

by Eric Enge

On April 16, 2014 Google announced that +Post ads would be available to all Google+ brand pages that have more than 1,000 followers. In this article I will review what these are, why it is important for brands to consider taking advantage of them, as well as why this this makes it more important than ever to be engaged in Google+.

What are +Post ads?

+Post ads allow brands to promote their Google+ content posts via Google’s AdSense program. This means that any post you push out via your brand page on Google Plus can receive additional traffic from other places on the web. If you are not familiar with the AdSense program, it is a form of the Google AdWords program, except the ads show up as display ads on 3rd party web sites instead of in Google’s Search results.
Imagine that you are running a business that promotes travel to the beautful Outer Banks section of North Carolina, and you create great article content that you would like visibility for. One step you can take is to promote that article on Google Plus from your brand page. The +Post ads program allows you to also pay to promote that same content on other people’s web sites, therefore dramatically increasing the visibility of that content. Basic controls within your AdSense account allow you to control what places these ads show. The following screen shot shows a traditional AdSense ad on the TripAdivsor web site:
Traditional AdSense Ad
One of the great features of this program is that the shared posts are fully interactive. Visitors to the site running your +Post ad can actually comment on the article right on that 3rd party site, including resharing them through their own Google+ accounts. You can see this in action in this example of a Toyota ad on the AllRecipes web site:
Plus Post Ad Example
In this screen shot we see a +Post ad on the right rail and in the center of the screen the ad has been expanded out as the user has already begun to engage with it. The user can +1 the content, share it, or comment on it.

Top 8 Adwords Report to Measure Success

Top 8 Adwords ReportReporting is an exceptionally essential a piece of internet searcher showcasing (and computerized promoting as a rule). Obviously, its significant to have the ability to show the rate of profitability (ROI) of the computerized plan. Then again, by utilizing reports to dissect execution, web index advertisers can streamline their records by evolving offers, including or stopping decisive words, turning in new commercial duplicate, and so on. Doubtlessly, its critical to be extremely acquainted with the reporting alternatives that are accessible.

This week, we'll experience the other accessible Adwords reports, and I'll impart a couple of tips on how you can begin to dissect the execution of your records.

Promotion execution. This plainly obvious report permits you to view execution information for each of your ads. Be cautious how you see your commercial information in light of the fact that it could be extremely subject to the catchphrases that set off the impressions more than that ads themselves. Obviously the ads are indispensable to the execution, however in the event that you're going to take a gander at the commercial level, have a go at review everything at the promotion assembly level first. In the event that you set up your crusades with hard themed commercial gatherings (as I proposed), this information will bode well. Attempt to search for basic topics that either spike or drop execution, for example, utilizing estimating or solid calls to movement in the promotion content. This may help you think of some winning bearings to take your next inventive raise.

URL execution. This report permits you to view execution information for each of your Destination Urls. Clearly, in case you're utilizing one or simply a handful of point of arrival Urls, this report may not be extremely useful for you. Yet, in the event that you have numerous Urls, particularly ones that accompany a certain progressive system of your website, it may be handy to see which fusions of pivotal words, ads and pages are getting the most elevated return. Case in point, would you say you are offering more things by sending activity specifically to the item pages, the class pages or the sub-classification pages? Shouldn't something be said about lead era? Are more individuals rounding out your lead structure in the event that they're sent to a particular insight page or to the home page?

Notice bunch execution. This report permits you to view advertisement bunch execution information for one or a greater amount of your crusades. In the event that you do have firmly themed advertisement bunches, it could be simpler to deal with your decisive words at the aggregation level than at the essential word level. Granted, you can go in from time to time and change your catchphrases, however it may be simpler in the normal toil to streamline 100 promotion bunches vs. 10,000 watchwords.

Crusade execution. This report permits you to view execution information for your crusades. Since the fight level information is not difficult to see from a solitary screen in the interface, you would presumably just need to draw this report for recorded purposes. Case in point, you can set the date reach to retreat a few years and after that pick the unit of time in months. Thusly you could get a great month-over-month take a gander at how your record has been performing.

Account execution. This report permits you to view execution information for your whole record. Likewise with the battle execution report, you likely just need to force this report when you need to concentrate on analyzings units of time against one another.

Demographic execution. This report permits you to view execution information for destinations by demographic. Demographic data (male/female, age, and so forth) is not accessible for your inquiry crusades. You ought to realize that Google offers more than simply publicizing on web index outcomes page. Their promotion arrange, the Google Content Network, is one of the biggest (if not the biggest) advertisement organizes on the planet and permits publicists to put ads on different destinations around the web. I'll examine the Google Content Network (and arrangement focused on crusades) in future posts of this section.

Geographic execution. This report permits you to view execution information by geographic cause. The geographic execution report reveals to you more or less where your guests are hailing from, in light of their IP addresses or any areas included in their inquiry questions. Utilize the report to achieve your showcasing destinations by checking on the information as free statistical surveying and as a foundation for advancing a national crusade by area. Case in point, assuming that you find that clients from the east drift are changing over higher than those on the west drift, you may need to change your fight settings to simply focus on those higher changing over regions. Also, you may discover some incredible discernment to impart to your sponsor about which parts of the nation (or world) are hunting down item or brand terms. This may be a great marker for which locales could utilize more disconnected from the net showcasing exertions.

Search inquiry execution. This report permits you to view execution information for pursuit inquiries which set off your advertisement and accepted clicks. This report is one of the new(er) reports from Google and is an extraordinary wellspring of information from your crusade. Keep in mind, the watchword which gets kudos for an impression, click or transformation may not be the accurate decisive word or expression that set off the genuine commercial. Does that bode well?

Keep in mind how expansive match attempts to throws a wide net for you? In this way, in the event that you see that an impression was recorded for the term cake, the genuine inquiry may have been pineapple upsidedown cake or even cake walk. Since cake showed up in the inquiry string, your advertisement was activate. The more general the term, the all the more regularly you'll discover different emphasess and forms that can trigger it to show a promotion. By looking through the hunt question execution report, you'll have the capacity to uncover essential words that are activating ads however you might not have in your record. It's better to include these pivotal words (or make them negative catchphrases) so you can have better control over their use and advancement.

That is it. There are some great reports here for you to look at. When your record has collected a great information set (possibly a few weeks worth), take a stab at running some of these reports to see what you can discover. It's great to get used to begin seeing the information now so that you’re more familiar with it later.

The internet is constantly growing everyday. The feedback that you can get from online marketing is huge if you are competent. This can be attributed to contextual advertising, which Google AdSense is the leader.  There are almost everything you can do to boost your time and effort management techniques. I have listed a few of the stuff that will allow you to better manage your time and effort, make you stay on task, and enhance your productiveness. Be that as it can, there are numerous much more techniques you can study.
This article will give you some ideas for generating more AdSense income. Your choice of keywords is the single most important aspect that says whether or not your AdSense will be profitable. You should make sure that the keywords around your articles are very lucrative. The key here is to keep your content relevant and in sync with the keywords, so that the AdSense program is able to serve you quality ads. When you add the correct keywords to your content, you probably will get more customer clicks. You can use the Google keyword tool to discover those keywords that will get the clicks and revenue for your website.
Google, which deemed the leader in its industry developed a revenue sharing plan that many webmasters use on their websites to generate ad clicks. It is considered a wonderful way for advertisers to influence their customers and for online marketers to use as a platform to make major cash with their websites.
We like to persuade folks to continually perform a lot more simply because which puts these questions place to get higher than they believed achievable. What else could you observe inside your current web business since it pertains to that which you have got simply read?
You also need to keep in mind that ad placement is extremely important as not placing them in the right place can break you. The location of the ads, and the ways you use them, can mean a gain or a loss of money. If you want to go for a perfect AdSense block size then choose between 250 X 250 and 336 X 280. However, the ad size is really dependent on your overall goals. When you put ads on your site, you really should put them at the top of your site so that more eyeballs see it and more people will act on them. There will always be a need to assume people who read what you write, as it concerns internet marketing, know at least something about the subject. Just as a quick example of what we mean, Internet marketing coaching tips is an area that very many beginners will not have full knowledge about in the first place.
Even something as simple as setting up an autoresponder and doing email marketing requires some detailed knowledge to do it with good effect.
Our articles normally present a small number of related points to a main topic, but we will never begin to give you all that is available on any one particular topic or subject. So do learn more and get started if this appeals to you, and always keep moving forward. Do not ever think that the various techniques associated with commission shops are for the old-timers and are no longer relevant. There is never anything wrong with testing out something you have just read about, and very often you will discover that you have been overlooking something potentially profitable.
In fact, today’s discussion will be on topics that will not give you all the necessary background about them. Those who are new to online business need to remember there is always a lot more to the story in any article. If you are about to get started with your marketing, then look hard at what you have done and need to do and be sure you have all you need.
The knowledgeable person can easily take things for granted, but people with limited experience will often struggle. While it is obvious you have to learn how to do certain things, what can cause problems is proceeding without a solid base of information. Our articles are designed to be an introduction, and of course we cannot go into great detail when presenting multiple methods or ideas in a single article.
Jog your brain, clear out the cobwebs and try to use a creative approach with these methods in what you are doing now. Nothing beats experience, and that is the power of testing and giving something an honest shot. We were not holding back information to make your life harder, we can only do so much in a short article. Try keeping your ad blocks to two so your site will look less like an ad farm. Also, the fewer ads you have, you’ll get ads that pay more. We can only speculate that those who have used commission shops but did not see the gains they were expecting perhaps went forward with insufficient knowledge.
There is so much available to you from the standpoint of learning how to up your mental game. It is our belief that we create our conditions after a certain point in life, and we can learn to make more informed decisions. Another smart reason for small scale testing is so you can have some time to feel like you know what you are doing. We do not know about you, but we love testing out anything new that has good potential.

Are Your Google AdSense Ads Really Worth It?

By

At PubCon Las Vegas back in early November, Google’s Matt Cutts warned “If you have ads obscuring your content, you might want to think about it…Do they [visitors to your site] see content or something else that’s distracting or annoying?” Many in the SEO industry had already assumed that ad heavy sites were being targeted by Panda, but this confirmed their suspicions. After Cutts’ announcement, many SEO and PPC professionals commented that this advice was a stark contrast to Google AdSense’s advice of “ads located above the fold tend to perform better than those below the fold.” So what is a lowly site owner to do?
In my opinion, if Google says that sites with too many ads above the fold are likely to be penalized, you should drop/move some of those AdSense ads. While having ads above the fold may increase their overall exposure and eventual click-through-rate, what good are those ads going to do if your site is buried in the depths of the SERPs where no one can find it?
Are Your Google AdSense Ads Really Worth It? image are your adsense ads really worth it
Every site owner has the right to try and monetize their site as best as they can. However, you never want to sacrifice the overall usability and user-experience of your site just to make a couple extra bucks now! That is being penny wise, pound foolish with your SEO. Think about it, what has more long term value for your business and your site? While acquiring a new customer takes a lot more effort and time than getting someone to click on an ad, the end gain is so much greater. Chances are whatever they purchase from your company is going to be worth more than a click on that ad. Plus, once they are your customer you have the opportunity to turn them into repeat customers and brand loyalists. An ad isn’t going to do that for you!
Personally, I don’t put any ads on my website because I don’t want to send my traffic away. After all the hard work you put into link building, why would you want to push your traffic off your site? Once someone is on my site I want them to stick around as long as possible so I can convince them to sign up for my SEO newsletter, fill out a lead form and potentially hire us as their SEO partners. To me, that is for more valuable for my business than getting a few extra dollars from AdSense every month.

5 Fixes For Low AdSense Earnings

By CAIMIN
Google AdSense earnings not as high as you’d like? Clicks and profits taking a nosedive? Here are 5 reasons your ads might not be making you the money they should – and what to do about it.

1 – You Don’t Have Enough Visitors

Often overlooked by new publishers, simply not having enough traffic to your site is guaranteed to keep your earnings hovering around the disappointing level.
Even for publishers who are high AdSense earners, the actual clickthrough rates (CTR) on ads is low. It’s hard to quote an average click through rate because it varies so much from site to site and niche to niche but for most web publishers it’ll be around 1.5-3%.
That means you need fairly large numbers of visitors to start making a meaningful amount of money.
Suppose the average click on your site gets you $0.20. That means you need five clicks to make one dollar. If your average click through rate is 3% you stand to make $0.60 for every 100 visitors or $6 per 1000.
This is just an example. If your site is based around a topic where the ads pay more – and there are many topics where the payout is higher than twenty cents – you can make more money with less visitors.
But the principal still applies. A good flow of traffic is a vital part of earning revenue – whether through advertising, affiliate marketing, or selling your own product.

2 – You’re Accidentally Attracting Low-Paying Ads

Not all user clicks are created equal. Imagine two companies – one sells greenhouse seeds, the other patio covers. Seeds sell for very little. This means the seed advertiser will never pay much for an ad click because he makes very little back on a sale.
On the other hand, the patio cover advertiser makes a lot more profit per sale so it’s worthwhile spending more for ad clicks. Here are the actual figures for those keywords taken from the AdWords Keyword Tool (Adwords is the advertiser side of AdSense):
greenhouse seeds $0.51
patio covers $3.16
Most of the time AdSense displays ads based on the content around the ad unit. So if you have a gardening blog and you’ve been writing posts about greenhouse seeds you’ve accidentally been attracting low-paying ads. Writing posts about more expensive items every once in a while will boost your income as your blog starts displaying ads with higher paying clicks.
You can apply the same method to any market. Use the AdWords tool or take a look on Amazon to see which are the more expensive products or services that relate to the topic of your website.

3 – You’re in a Low-Paying Niche

An extension of the problem above is when the entire niche is full of low-paying ads. A good example of such a market is games. There’s no shortage of users wanting to play casual web-based games but the click payouts for AdSense are extremely low, making it hard to make a good income with a games site using AdSense alone.
If you’re in this situation, it might be worth look into an alternative to AdSense or making money with a completely different system like Amazon’s affiliate program.

4 – Your Ad Units Have a Low Click Through Rate

High-paying ads won’t earn you cash if no one clicks on them.
As a general rule, ads perform better when they’re above the fold – in the upper part of the page, so they’re visible without scrolling – rather than hidden lower down the page.
Ad placement is usually the single biggest factor of success with AdSense. The ads need to be in a position where your users can see them but not be so in the way they’re annoying and driving people to the browser back button.
Best Ad Sizes
AdSense offers a large selection of ad sizes but you’ll find some are better earners than others. What will work best depends on your site design & layout but here are some examples of positions and sizes that have worked well for me and other publishers over the years, so they’re a good starting point.
336×280 – Large Rectangle
300×250 – Medium Rectangle
728×90 – Leaderboard
160×600 – Wide Skyscraper
My experience has been that the Large Rectangle works the best for most sites. It’s quite a large ad block so it’s not always easy to make it fit into a site design without it being overpowering but if you can it usually works well.
Best Placements For AdSense
Best Placements For AdSense
Good places to put this size ad are near the start of your content or over to the right, so that it forms the first part of a right sidebar. These positions are also good spots to try running theMedium Rectangle.
The 728 Leaderboard often works best to the right of a left-placed site logo, either above or below a top navigation bar. Many publishers report excellent results with this size banner so if you’ve never tried it it’s definitely worth experimenting with.
If you’re using the Wide Skyscraper, you’re limited to where you can place it by its large size – that usually means the left or right sidebar. Curiously, this is one ad size that often works better in the lower part of the page, below the fold.

Experiment With The Ad Style

The default styles applied to new ad units generally work ok but you should definitely spend some time experimenting to find a look that brings in a little more money. Often a small change to the look can increase your CTR, and therefore your earnings, quite considerably.
Don’t use a border
By default there’s a border running around the edge of some of the preset ad styles. My experience has been that removing the border can increase your CTR by as much as 1%. You can remove the border by making the color the same as your page background.
Set the URL color to black
The default is green and I’ve found it changing it to black often improves the ad performance.
Make the Link Color Match Your In-Content Links
If you’re using a non-standard blue color for links within your content, set the ad units to use the same color. The idea is to make your AdSense units blend in more with the content and look less out of place.
For the same reason, set the font and font size to match your site design.
Use Image / Rich Media Ads Only
If your site content is mostly images or videos try setting the Ad Type on your ad units toImage/rich media ads only. Again, it’ll make the ads blend in more which is likely to increase your profits.
Image ads also often perform better than text ads on tech and gadgets sites.
I can’t emphasize enough how crucial ad style and location on the page are to improving click-through rates. Sometimes even a small change can boost earnings significantly. The key to success is make one change at a time, track the increase or decrease in revenue and then move on to the next tweak.
That can be a time-consuming process, so I’ve found a good AdSense theme for WordPress which does the split-testing for you is a major time-saver that pays for itself quickly.
Don’t be afraid to experiment with techniques to combat ad-blindness (users subconsciously expecting to see ads in a particular location and ignoring it).
Adding randomness to the style, media format or position of ad units can really boost your earnings. To do this, you’ll need to use some Javascript or PHP programming to switch between variations of ads or positions, or use a specialized WordPress plugin that lets you do it from within the admin area, so you don’t need to know any coding or programming.

5 – You’re Not Making Your Ad Units “Targeted”

Make sure your best-performing ad units have ad channels associated with them. It’s a great way keep track of the styles and placements that work best on your site. You can now also connect your AdSense account with your Google Analytics account to see exactly which pages generate the most revenue.
When you create your channel, make sure you select the Targeting option. This allows advertisers to more easily find your site when they’re setting up their campaign in AdWords.

Final Checklist

* Keep Building Traffic using ethical, white-hat SEO strategies. If you’re not sure you’re doing that, check out my SEO book.
* Ads Above The Fold
* Match Ad Style With Content
* Use Ad Channels To Track Performance & Add Attract Targeted Placement
* Consider investing in a specialized AdSense WordPress theme that does the split testing and optimization for you, so you can just concentrate on building traffic.

Why It Pays to Be Patient With Google AdSense

woman laptopHave you tried the 300×600 unit on your site yet?
I finally added it to one of my higher trafficked pages (within the content) just to see how it will pan out.
The first week…
I had deplorable click-thru rates and less-than-stellar earnings.
I was tempted to take it down, but then I remembered a situation where the earnings got better with time so I decided to be patient.
Next week…
Earnings were up a bit and the click-thru rate began to improve slightly (still lower than my overall average but better).
Week three…
The click-thru rate surpassed my personal average and the Page RPM (earnings per 1,000 impressions) is also better than my site’s average.
Due to the AdSense terms and conditions, I am not allowed to reveal my CTR or Page RPM.

So What Happened?

Could this unit have attracted a placement advertiser?
Maybe.
Of course, it’s hard to really know for sure, but sometimes when this happens it’s because a placement advertiser has outbid the contextual ads that are displayed.
For those who don’t know, Placement Advertisers can bid on an individual unit on your site directly and they outbid all the contextual ads.
So imagine an AdWords advertiser telling Google…
Hey, I want to put my ad on this particular page.
In order to land that spot, they have to outbid all the other contextual advertisers — which of course earns Google and the Publisher more money.
As I’ve already mentioned, I’ve noticed this before with other new units.  They’ll start out with terrible earnings, but as the unit matures, the Page RPM (earnings per thousand views) begins to pick up.
Many times this could be due to Placement ads taking over that spot.

Understanding The Different Ads

Contextual ads are the most popular kind of ad.  These display because the content on your site is relevant to the ad.   There is an auction taking place behind the scenes and the highest bidders (along with other quality signals) win the placement.
Placement ads are not as common, but can you earn you the most money since they advertiser has to outbid all the contextual ads.
Interest-based ads are shown based on your visitor’s web surfing activities.  So if they just went to Overstock.com to do some shopping, they may see an Overstock ad on your site instead of an ad that is related to your content.
You can actually turn off Interest-based ads in your account, but I’m not entirely sure why this is even an option since my units are still showing Interest-based ads. I see them myself and I also notice earnings from “Interest Based Ads” in my account.
So that’s always been a bit of a mystery to me.  If anyone has insight on this, I’d love to hear it.

How to Check Your Earnings Breakdown

To see how much you’re earning with the various kinds of ads, go to the Performance Reports tab and click “Targeting Types.”
This will display a pie chart and reveal what percentage of your earnings come from Contextual, Placement and Interest-based ads.
Most of you will find that you earn more from Contextual ads.  If you are earning more with Placement, congrats because you are really maximizing your earnings and you’ve attracted the attention of advertisers who want to advertise on your site specifically.
By the way, to ensure your units are available to placement advertisers, always create a Custom Channel for your units and opt to target it.

Wait it Out

So the moral of the story is experiment and be patient with the results — especially if you are adding a unit to a high-trafficked page.
Remember, advertisers love pages that get a decent amount of traffic and have units in a prime location (especially if it’s a larger unit.)
So don’t be so quick to remove a new unit for low performance.  It may pick up in the long run.

7 AdSense Strategies You Should Adopt

1.  Make room for the 728×90 banner — if you can

Obviously you don’t want to crowd your site or make it look awkward, but if your experience with this unit size is anything like mine, you may want to consider opening up a spot.
I am now using this banner size on three of my sites:  WebsiteBabble.comFlat-Stomach-Exercises.com and finally this blog.
In all three cases it performs great and the eCPM (earnings per thousand) is higher than the other sizes.  This is the only AdSense unit that has ever performed well on this blog.
Due to the Google terms I am not allowed to disclose my eCPM, but it is significantly higher than my other units.  Understand that a high eCPM doesn’t necessarily mean I’m getting a lot of clicks, but I’m earning more per click compared to other units.

2. Set your channels to “Targetable”

Doing this allows premium advertisers to advertise solely on your site if they wish.  They can outbid all other contextual advertisers and lock down a spot on your site for an indefinite amount of time.  Premium advertisers pay more for this kind of ad, so it means you can earn more per click.

3. Display ads alongside videos

I do this quite often on 2CreateAWebSite.com, and those units usually perform better than any other (even the leaderboard ads).  And if you’re wondering if this is against the terms, wonder no more.
I actually got this idea from Google.  Their optimization team ran an analysis on my site years ago and suggested I add the ads alongside my videos.
From a technical standpoint, there are a few ways to accomplish this.  It’s probably best to use CSS, but you can also use a simple table.  Yes, tables are so 1990-ish, but they still work and come in handy for accomplishing this.
So the idea is to create a table with two equal columns.  Put the video in the left column and the ad code in the right (or vice versa.)  Here’s the code for a simple table you can use.  Adjust the widths of your table, video and AdSense ads accordingly….
<table width=”600″ align=”center”><tr>
<td width=”300″>
INSERT VIDEO CODE HERE </td>
<td width=”300″>
INSERT ADSENSE CODE HERE
</td></tr></table>

4. Create Channels

It’s amazing how many people do not setup new channels when they create new AdSense code.  How will you ever know which unit performs the best if they are all lumped together?

5. Refresh!

Every now and then I’ll do a refresh and change the look of my units… slightly.
I usually keep the background color the same because I like for it to match my site, but I may change the color of the title or URL text.  I seem to notice a slight boost when I do this.  Of course there is never any proof this is the reason, but what can it hurt to try?

6. Pay attention to your Analytics reports

If you use Google Analytics, you can sync your AdSense and Analytics accounts together so you can see how much each page is earning.
Keep track of and analyze your highest earning pages.   Are they your highest because of traffic or is there some other reason?  (Different ad placement or size.)

7. Delete under-performing units

I have not been able to confirm exactly what AdWords advertisers can see with regards to the Publisher’s stats (click through rates, etc.)  But since they can opt to advertise on our sites exclusively,  I try to keep my overall CTR as high as possible by getting rid of units that perform below my own average.
Obviously “under-performing units” will be defined by your individual average and it will be different for everyone.
